DILG CHIEF: CIRCUMSTANCES INDICATE CABRAL’S DEATH WAS SUICIDE
Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos has said that early findings point to suicide in the death of former Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial Cabral. Speaking to reporters, Abalos explained that circumstances at the scene, as relayed to him, were consistent with self-harm, according to initial information. He stressed, however, that investigators are still documenting evidence and interviewing individuals who may help clarify the sequence of events.
Cabral, who previously served in the national government’s health sector, had kept a relatively low public profile in recent years. Her passing has drawn attention due to her prior role in public service and the ongoing discussions surrounding mental health and well-being in the country. Based on preliminary reports, authorities are coordinating to ensure that standard procedures are followed, including forensic examinations and formal documentation of the case.
Officials have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims while the inquiry is underway. As of now, there are no confirmed details beyond what has been formally shared by the DILG and other concerned agencies. Further updates are expected once investigators complete their assessment, and any official findings are likely to be released through established government and police channels.
